It doesn’t get much more clear than these two verses.  We were far from God.  But by the grace of Jesus Christ at the cross we are brought near.  PRAISE GOD!

1 Peter 3:18 (ESV)
¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,

Ephesians 2:13 (ESV)
¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
